Rebecca Dillingham, MD/MPH

PL Director Emeritus

"I am an infectious disease specialist who cares for adults with acute and chronic infectious diseases. I am passionate about improving care systems particularly for those with HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and those with substance use disorder, especially through the use of mobile health (mHealth) technologies. I provide care both in person and through telehealth. I also collaborate with public health and correctional health organizations to expand care.

In my research, we have defined key challenges to health and well-being for our priority populations and work to develop and test individual, clinic, and system-level strategies to address these challenges. In partnership with patients and colleagues from different disciplines, I have had the opportunity to develop PL as a strategy to extend care beyond the clinic walls, to enhance clinicians' connection with their patients, and to support patients' achievement of their health goals.

I see HIV as an important model for the management of chronic diseases more broadly, especially those chronic diseases that disproportionately affect vulnerable communities.

My work focuses on adherence and engagement with care and more specifically on the use of mobile technologies to enhance adherence and engagement.

I have published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and have been awarded numerous teaching, clinical service, and innovation awards in recognition of my skill as an educator, my humanistic approach to medicine, and my work to develop novel strategies to deliver care to marginalized populations."
